Basement flood restoration — sump pump failure

The problem

The homeowners returned from a week-long trip to find roughly 50 mm of standing water across the finished basement after their sump pump failed during a storm.

Water had been sitting for an estimated four to five days, well past the window for safe in-place drying.

What we found

Moisture had wicked up drywall to approximately 300 mm in most areas, and laminate flooring had delaminated throughout.

Early mould growth was present on the lower drywall sections and behind baseboards.

The solution

We extracted remaining water, removed affected drywall and flooring, treated the exposed framing for mould, and ran structural drying equipment until moisture readings confirmed the space was dry before starting reconstruction.

Result

The basement was fully restored, including new drywall, paint, and flooring. We also recommended and installed a battery-backup sump system to reduce recurrence risk.
